Continuing our journey South, our next stop was Birmingham Alabama. The drive from Atlanta was delightful and filled with beautiful vistas.

Love this photo of the clouds reflected in the lake at Peach Queen RV Park
Birmingham Alabama was a place that I had never been to. Steve used to travel extensively for business. But even though he has visited many, many places that we have and will travel to, he knows very little about those locations. When he would arrive at a city he headed straight to his hotel. Checked in, and then set up his business booth for the business opportunity expo. The shows would be on the weekends and the next few days he would have appointments in his hotel room. He rarely got to do any sightseeing at all. If he didn’t order room service he ate at the hotel restaurant. In fact he frequently had to ask what city he was in when he got his wake up call! Remember those?
So Birmingham Alabama was really new to both of us. And as it turned out, our RV park, in Jemison, was about a half an hour to 45 minutes away from everywhere we needed to go. Peach Queen RV Park was quirky. There was no one to check you in. You chose your own site. Filled out a form. Put a check and the form in an envelope and then placed it in a locked box. That was it. The park was large and quite empty so choosing a site and maneuvering was really easy.

A duck is taunting our fur baby Hershi

Hershi straining to get to the duck in the lake
There was a huge pavilion for activities. But with Covid there was nothing going on. But the beautiful lake had ducks swimming around which made it fun to take Hershi for walks. I’m not sure whether he thought those ducks were playmates or lunch. But he loved running towards them.
By the time we reach Birmingham we had been on the road for almost 4 months. And we were still fine tuning the RV. Just like your sticks and bricks, there is always something to fix or upgrade. This time for us it was our sound system. When we picked up the RV we had awesome surround sound, complete with a rather large subwoofer. Suddenly that system just quit on us. After checking the wiring and asking a lot of questions at Best Buy, the consensus was that we had to replace the system. Or…we could take the easy route and buy a sound bar.
We checked Amazon first. But that seemed to lead to a lot more confusion. Too many choices and no one to ask to get questions answered. So we decided to check out what Costco might have. They also had many choices. One thing we knew was that we didn’t want to give up any real estate for a new subwoofer. In fact, we were happy to get rid of one completely. You know how they say “timing is everything”? Just that day they had gotten a new shipment of Bose sound bars in that had built in subwoofers. And the size was perfect for our 40-inch TV. And it was under $200!

While we were driving around to Costco, Best Buy, Publix and all of our other favorite stores we couldn’t help but notice what a gorgeous and very upscale area Birmingham was. Sadly the only pictures we took were the few at the RV park. Plus we never did any sightseeing. You know what that means, don’t you? We will have to return for a repeat visit.
