Carol and Sandy Friends Forever
Friday night we met our good friends Carol and Jon for dinner at Mizner Park. They had suggested a restaurant that they frequent often and it was the perfect place to meet. The weather that evening couldn’t have been nicer. It was the kind of Florida evening that makes everyone else wish they lived here. Though it was very crowded at Villagio Friday night we were seated right away at a great table outside by our host Aguinaldo (“Agui”). Our server Felipe gave us menus and told us about the evenings specials. Jon had brought a couple of bottles of Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon so we needed no other drinks. Immediately we were brought a plate of soft pita with bruschetta and freshly baked bread and butter. Magically when our first plate was devoured another one appeared. Next came a delicious antipasto of Genoa salami, provolone, herbs and roasted peppers which we also inhaled. Then we were treated to a tasty appetizer of Burrata, which is a fresh mozzarella on the outside with a creamy center, drizzled with aged Balsamic Vinegar and served with thinly sliced prosciutto, diced tomato and basil. All of the antipasti were so good that I wasn’t sure I even wanted dinner but I was certainly glad that I had it. Steve ordered the Veal Marsala and I had Chicken Piccata and we both had sides of pasta with the same sauce as our dish. Both dishes were very delicious and plentiful and somehow we managed to clean our plates. We were all totally satiated and ready for a soft pillow when Agui came over with four limoncellos and a gorgeous rustic apple galette with vanilla ice cream and lots of cinnamon and sugar. As wonderful as the dessert was it didn’t really need quite the amount of sugar that was sprinkled on top. We agreed that it probably only needed the cinnamon and little or no sugar which would have allowed the flavor of the fresh apples to shine through. We always have such fun with Carol and Jon that we vowed to get together more often. Carol loves to tell people how we were their first friends in Florida. Carol and Sandy will be friends forever.
