We arrived at our friends home for some June Fun in Sulphur Springs TX.

The Pitts’ Ponderosa
Our original plan was to stay on their property for about five days. But five days turned into almost an entire month!
Contrary to what a lot of people believe, living in an RV is not cheap! Just like in a brick and mortar home things break and need to be repaired. In this instance our slide outs were not cooperating.
When your RV is your home you worry about trusting a stranger with all of your possessions. Lucky for us, our friends knew a reliable mechanic nearby and they graciously offered to have us live in their McMansion while the repairs were being done. So a few days visit turned into almost an entire month. But there turned out to be plenty to see and do in their tiny town!

Our friendly neighbors
Our friends live on a huge property and lease out several acres to neighbors who raise cattle. When we we mooch docked there last year, we loved waking up to an assortment of cows grazing right next to Ladybug.

Part of our friends’ patio, pool and property
But staying in the house gave us a brand new experience. We’d be luxuriating in their swimming pool when suddenly we noticed they’d come to that pasture for a visit. But not only did the cows entertain us while swimming, but horses as well. One afternoon I was alone in the pool and suddenly heard the unmistakable sound of a horse whinnying. I looked up and a beautiful white steed was staring at me from behind the gazebo. By the time I was able to get out to grab my phone for a picture, he’d disappeared to a farther pasture!

Another view of the pool and gazebo
We had a couple of other encounters with livestock that you would only experience on a farm. Totally new experiences for us city slickers!

We had lots of company while lounging at the pool!
The first of those occurred when Steve was taking a walk along the country road that leads from the highway to our friends property. Suddenly he was face to face with a little calf. This little one had escaped through a tear in the fencing and was wandering around hoping to be rescued. One of the neighbors drove by in his pick-up truck and stopped to help. Between them they found the rest of the calf’s herd and guided him back to his mom.

Those cows and pasture, up close and personal
A few days later I was sitting at the kitchen table and looked out at the pool to discover that very same calf staring back at me through the sliding glass door. He’d somehow gotten out again and I believe he was following Steve’s scent so he could find Steve to rescue him again. And that is exactly what Steve and Mack did!

First encounter with “Norman”
We have now named him Norman. I’m sure many of you remember the movie City Slickers with Billy Crystal. Crystal’s character goes off to a Dude Ranch to “find his smile”. In one scene he helps bring a calf into this world and names him Norman. At the end of the film he returns to New York, WITH NORMAN.

Norman, playing hide and seek
The time we spent in Sulphur Springs really brought us closer to nature. And we loved it!

Git along little dogie…
Stay tuned for more June Fun in Sulphur Springs TX.
