Thanksgiving in March? No. Not really. We enjoyed Thanksgiving with our son and daughter-in-love on the actual holiday in November.

Eve made our beautiful Turkey Day bird
It has been our tradition since Brian and Eve got engaged to spend Thanksgiving together. And we see no reason to change that, just because we on the road. in fact, we have been making it a point to spend a month together.

Steve had the honor of carving
Where our kids live is very rural. Their property is in the woods with lots of wildlife visiting regularly. They’ve also discovered that they have blackberry bushes and at least one Seckel pear tree. The blackberries were so delicious. Especially when we picked them right off the bushes, warm from the afternoon sunshine. Sadly no one but the bears got to enjoy the pears!

Being the carver has its rewards!
Both Brian and Eve grew up in suburban city settings. So it’s really wonderful that they have embraced life in the country. And I love seeing photos of bear, deer and bunnies sightings on their property.

Eve’ Traditional Green Bean Casserole
We got to their home on November 1. Eve made dinner most nights, but Brian and I gave her a break now and then by cooking. So by the time Thanksgiving week rolled around, the three of us were happy to all be cooking different parts of the same meal. And Steve was happy to eat all of it!

Our accompaniments: Jellied Cranberry Sauce and home baked rolls
Though Steve has tried his hand at baking and loves grilling, regular cooking at the stove are NOT his forte.

I made enough stuffing for about 12 guests, though there were only 4 of us!

I made the Goat Cheese Mashed Potatoes
The previous year I tried a new stuffing recipe that sounded amazing but tasted very meh. It was dry as sawdust. I was so disappointed. We all tasted a forkful and left the rest on our plates. So this time I went back to my tried and true traditional recipe made with lots of broth, sautéed mushrooms, onion and celery. I was so happy to redeem myself! I also made some silky, creamy and tangy goat cheese mashed potatoes and our turkey gravy.

Eve made the apple filling for our dessert the day before Thanksgiving

Eve’s Apple Cobbler
Eve did the bulk of the work. She roasted our turkey to golden browned perfection, made traditional green bean casserole, baked beautiful pillowy rolls and made an amazing apple cobbler that we all enjoyed with some vanilla ice cream.

Brian made his awesome, ooey, gooey, cheesy Mac and Cheese
Brian made his signature macaroni and cheese that is so rich and ooey gooey you just can’t stop eating it. Even when you are already stuffed to the gills. And Steve carved the turkey and cleaned up.

Now that’s what I call a beautiful plate of food!
All four of us contributed to our perfect and very traditional Thanksgiving feast.
There’s a reason that we like to stick with those traditional recipes that we have made for countless Turkey Days. They are what we expect and look forward to year after year. And we also look forward to trimming Brian and Eve’s Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving!

Our beautiful family Christmas Tree
Those traditions are part of what we give thanks for. But most importantly we are always thankful for our wonderful loving family, good health and awesome friends. We say thanks for those things each and every day. So whether it’s March or November, everyday is thanksgiving day!!!
