A neighbor of ours at the Old 66 RV Park in El Reno, told us about Express Clydesdales in Yukon Oklahoma. Since it was nearby, we hopped in the Jeep and headed there.

Horse Bench and Carriage

Before Steve and I started traveling full time, we lived in Wellington FL which was a huge equestrian community. Horse farms and sporting facilities were abundant in or town. For the 18 years that we had our catering company, Affairs to Remember Catering, the majority of our clients were involved with horses on way or another.

One of our frequent clients was married to a polo player on the Anheuser-Busch team. When it was time for their son’s fifth birthday party they hired us to do the catering. It was held on a practice polo field and a whole team of Clydesdales came to take the children on a carriage ride.

Say hello to Dennis!

That’s when Steve and I truly fell in love with the gentle giants. They are so majestic!!! You feel dwarfed standing next to them.

Fabulous sculpture of the Express Clydesdales

We were so excited to have another up-close-and-personal experience with some magnificent horses. To our surprise, these Clydesdales looked quite different to the Anheuser-Busch horses. They were even more stunning. Just as enormous, maybe if bigger. But instead of the typical brown and cream coloring, the Express Clydesdales are jet black and white. They are exquisite!

Ring Around the Rosie

Bob Funk visited the Canadian Western Agribition, an agricultural trade show,  in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1991. While was there, he met and fell in love with the rare and beautiful black and white Clydesdales.

It was then that he saw an opportunity to bring something entirely new to his home state of Oklahoma. Funk intuitively knew that the Clydesdales would become a unique tourist attraction.

Just look at the size of those feet!

In 1998, Express Employment Professionals began using the Express Clydesdales as a neighborhood marketing tool for the Express brand. Not only do the Express Clydesdales meet thousands of visitors each year at home in the beautiful and historic Clydesdale barn but they travel across North America as good-will ambassadors for Express Employment Professionals.

Bob Funk is quoted as saying: “I respect and admire these gentle giants and enjoy seeing kids’ sense of awe when they are up close to these majestic animals.”
