The Traveling Locavores, aka Sandy and Steve, are happy campers!!!

Our new for us 2004 Four Winds Windsport!

The Search

After many years of yearning and searching for the perfect RV for us to call home, that search has finally ended. It was the best Hanukkah present we ever gave to each other! We drove all day

An olive soup bowl filled with Chinese Hot and Sour soup on a wood table made us Happy Campers.

Christmas Dinner at Fortune House in Franklin NC warming Hot and Sour Soup.

Christmas Day to Franklin, North Carolina. We even ate dinner out on Christmas. And yes, it was Chinese food. I know. How cliché! Two Jews eating out at a Chinese restaurant on Christmas. Not only was it the only restaurant open, but we were the only customers! In fact the owner was our chef and server.

The day after Christmas we picked up our 2004 Four Winds Windsport. Our rig is 37-feet long with two slide outs. One in the bedroom and the other in the living room. Among the things that make this one so perfect for us is that it has tons and tons of interior storage, a wonderful desk/vanity in the bedroom, brand new gorgeous hardwood floors in the main living area and new leather dinette booth, sofa, driver’s and passenger seats.

The Renovations

But Steve and I have big plans for our renovations. For one we plan to add a turquoise detail to the full body paint graphics on the outside. Everyone who knows me, knows that turquoise is my favorite color, so adding a touch of it will make me very happy. We will also be adding our logo on the back of the RV so everyone will know who we are. As for the inside, we plan on making it homier. To set the kitchen apart Steve will be painting the kitchen cabinets and wood inserts on the refrigerator. And we’ll change all of the cabinet hardware. Since I do so much cooking I need a better sink and faucet. And because we will change those items we will need to also change the countertop. I’m thinking perhaps white quartz. And in place of the dated and silly mirrored backsplash we may do subway tiles. Even if we decide on a different tile the entire backsplash will definitely be tiled.

In the hallway there’s a large closet that we plan on turning into a pantry since there are ample closets in the bedroom. And speaking of the bedroom, we’re going to remove the headboard and replace the carpet with tile. We are also going to paint all of the interior walls, change the window treatments everywhere and hang as much of our art collection as we possibly can. We plan on making it sleek, modern and very functional. Once all that is done we will really be very happy campers indeed.

RVing is not new to us. We started with our first RV in 2006. A few years later we got our second RV which was older but larger. And then life got in the way and we were homebound except for a few vacations where we drove a car to our destination and stayed in hotels. Compared to RVing that sucked. But we made the best of it. Now we can’t wait to be on the road full time which will hopefully be in early May. So much to do before then. We have the renovations, a house to sell and lots of STUFF to get rid of. It is daunting but we are up for the task.

And of course these happy campers will document it all so you can follow our progress here and on our future YouTube channel!
