We spent September and October at the Jersey Shore. While there, great friends from Florida came up for a visit and we went to Johnny’s Café in Margate NJ for a fabulous brunch.

I am blessed to have several friends who are like family to me. But two, in particular, are more like my sisters! Jackie, Sheri and I have been friends for a lifetime. Our children are all friends too. That’s how deep our friendship goes. Their children are our niece and nephews.

I know that you’ve heard me mention our niece Ashley who lives in Margate with her husband, is Sheri’s daughter. Well, as of August 15 they are the parents of two! Our grandnephew Mav Sol was three in November. And our precious grandniece Liv Skye was born on August 15. Watching them grow and thrive is joyful beyond words!!!

Of course we had to spend as much time as possible visiting with them. And because we are family, Jackie and her beau Art came up from Florida so we could all be together.

Which brings us to brunch. Sheri, Jackie, Art, Steve and I all went to Johnny’s Café Margate NJ for brunch after spending the earlier part of the morning enjoying the children.

Johnny’s Café is beautiful. It’s modern and casual, but upscale at the same time. Fortunately the shore is way less crowded after Labor Day, and we were seated right away.

The brunch menu is quite varied and very enticing, making it a little difficult to narrow down what to order. Honestly, there were at least three other dishes that I was considering. But I absolutely love Eggs Benny and when I saw it was offered with smoked salmon I couldn’t resist. I did get to taste Steve’s Mushroom Swiss Omelette and my sisters’ The Goat Omelette; and they were fabulous as well.

That’s how eggs benny should be cooked!

My Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict was perfect. The English Muffin base was nicely toasted and topped with plenty of salty smoke salmon. And that combo was crowned with perfectly poached eggs with a blanket of buttery, lemony Hollandaise sauce.

Steve’s Mushroom Swiss Omelette was loaded with earthy sautéed mushrooms and lots of stretchy, melty Swiss.

The Goat was also yummy with its creamy tangy goat cheese, plenty of crispy bacon and loads of those delicious mushrooms.

Art’s Breakfast Sandwich with Sausage, Egg and Cheese

Art’s Breakfast Sandwich was equally tasty. An ample portion of breakfast sausage patty, melted cheese and fried egg between two perfectly toasted slices of rye bread.

All of our dishes were accompanied by savory home fries that were just how we all like them: crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside and well seasoned.

Even the coffee was good. And I am very fussy about my coffee because I like a dark roast. I drink it just the way it comes in the cup. No cream. No sweetener.

Now that I’m writing about our wonderful brunch at Johnny’s Café Margate NJ, I can’r wait for summer to arrive. Our plan is to spend July, August and September at the Jersey Shore this year!!!
