While staying near Lafayette, Steve and I decided to explore more of the area starting with lunch at Mama’s Fried Chicken Opelousas LA.

Welcome to Mama’s Fried Chicken Opelousas LA
What a hidden gem! This tiny little place is more of a fast food joint. But don’t let that fact deter you from getting the best fried chicken you’ve ever had. And talk about cheap eats…

Amazing Fried Chicken, delicious fries and fluffy biscuit
Steve ordered the 3 Chicken Tenders Combo, which came with a big fluffy biscuit and a huge order of fries, all for $9.79. I ordered the 2 piece Fried Chicken Dinner Combo, which also came with fries and biscuit, for $9.29. The portions were so huge that neither of us could eat more than half of our meals.

The restaurant is small but mighty!
The portions were not only large, the food was absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender, juicy, succulent and had the most fabulous crunchy coating. The biscuits were enormous but also light and fluffy. And the French Fries were fry perfection.
Now for a bit of Mama’s Fried Chicken history.

Mama’s is super cute, clean and welcoming
Mama’s Fried Chicken opened in Opelousas in 1977. Over the decades it has come to be known for being a reliable place for a filling and delicious meal. Generations of young people were able to have their first job experience at Mama’s.
Today, Mama’s has more than just one location. And I expect they will continue to expand. The second generation owner of Mama’s takes great pride in serving great food fast without sacrificing one bit of quality. They continue to use fresh ingredients, make their dishes from scratch and keep the prices reasonable. There is nothing better than a delicious meal that satisfies your appetite and warms your soul!
And while exploring a bit more of Opelousas, we met some lovely locals. They asked where we’d eaten lunch. When our response was Mama’s, they all asked the same question: Did you have the Fried Chicken Livers?
So, of course, we had to go back before we left Opelousas, and get some of those chicken livers! Sixteen chicken livers, fries and another huge biscuit for $7.79.

Oh so yummy Fried Chicken Livers, crispy French Fries and fluffy biscuits
Fried Chicken Livers are a very Southern thing. They were absolutely AMAZING!!! At this point I guess you can imagine what we had for dinner. It was a feast of epic proportions.
