Even though Steve and I lived in Florida for 38 years, Pensacola Beach and Boardwalk was totally new to us!

Steve and I, with my head on his shoulder, are standing in front of a sign that says Welcome to Pensacola Beach.

Steve and I welcome you to Pensacola Beach Florida

We had heard that the Gulf beach was gorgeous and that the little boardwalk was fun. But honestly, we had not planned to visit there for any length of time. As it turned out it was a necessary stop for us, on our way to New Orleans.

While we were visiting with Brian and Eve, Steve learned that his drivers license was expiring. The fastest way to assure that it would be renewed was to go to the county in Florida where our domicile address is registered. Luckily for us, Pensacola FL was in that county.

Steve had wanted to get in the Jeep and drive all the way from northwestern South Carolina to northwestern Florida. Then we’d spend the night at a hotel and go to Department of Motor Vehicles int he morning and drive all the way back to Pickens. A lot of driving and a lot of money.

Fortunately we women are much more logical and practical. I suggested that we just detour about 150 miles instead of taking that 1000 plus drive. So that’s what brought us to beautiful Pensacola Beach and Boardwalk.

Surfer Santa

We arrived at our FREE RV parking space at Cracker Barrel early enough to be able to do some sightseeing before dinner. So off to the beach we went.

It was a chilly and blustery afternoon but that didn’t deter us from enjoying our stroll on the little boardwalk. A few steps down from the boardwalk the pristine white sand was beckoning Steve. And just a short walk further was the crystal clear Gulf of Mexico. A few boats bobbed on the horizon, but it was too windy to really enjoy a day at the beach.

The Pensacola Boardwalk is only a couple of blocks long. It is lined with shops and restaurants though, so we had no problem making a fun afternoon of trip there. And after some really fun souvenir shopping we headed off to explore more of the area.

Our big discovery was Fort Pickens, waaaaay out at the end of Pensacola. So more on that in my next blog post!
