Steve is about to enter The Mercantile Pawhuska Oklahoma

Steve and I have been to Oklahoma before, but never anywhere near Pawhuska. This time we decided we really wanted to explore northeastern Oklahoma which included a visit to Tulsa and Pawhuska.

Welcome to Pawhuska Oklahoma

As foodies and locavores our natural priority  was to check out Pioneer Woman’s restaurant, bakery and general store. The Mercantile is located in downtown Pawhuska, on Main Street, in an historic building that was erected in 1910.

A welcome mat too pretty to walk on

Ree and her husband Ladd spent years renovating the old Osage Mercantile building in order to be able to welcome visitors from near and far and give them a slice of small town hospitality.

Goodies for sale inside the store section of The Merc

From the moment we walked through the door we noticed all of the beautiful touches that were so true to Ree Drummond’s persona. From the gorgeous welcome mat to the lovely merchandise, freshly baked pastries and great coffee, The Merc felt like a warm hug.

After exploring the goodies for sale for just a few moments, we were escorted to our table in the stunning dining room. We were handed menus to peruse and some of that great coffee was poured.

Are you hungry yet?

It didn’t take us long to hone in on what we each wanted for breakfast.

Steve’s Pancake Breakfast

Steve ordered Edna Mae’s Pancakes. The recipe was a favorite one from Ladd Drummond’s grandmother for fabulous and flavorful pancakes. They were topped with a trio of butter balls. The luscious butter balls consisted of one plain whipped butter, one honey cinnamon and one raspberry. And the stack of fluffy pancakes was served with another trio of syrups: Cinnamon Vanilla, Sea Salt Caramel and Classic Pure Maple. Each was so delicious that Steve kept dipping each bite in a different one.

The Biscuits and Gravy was calling my name. It’s my favorite breakfast that our son makes when we visit them. Sorry Brian, the biscuits at The Mercantile were better than yours.

My Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast

The Biscuits and Gravy at The Merc consisted of their legendary sausage gravy served over two large light as air buttermilk biscuits. Alongside the biscuits and gravy were Crispy Bits Potatoes, two eggs anyway you like them and your choice of 3 pieces of breakfast meat. I chose poached eggs and pork sausage patties.

Our breakfast was amazing!!! It was such a hearty start to our day that we were’t even hungry for dinner until about 9:30 that night. So we had PB and J sandwiches for dinner.
