One of my goals for 2022 is to eat more fish. I imagine it’s probably one of yours as well. Steve and I both love Salmon. Smoked. Baked. Poached. Fried. Grilled. There are so many ways to serve up salmon. This meaty, omega-3-rich fish also pairs well with so many ingredients. All in all, it’s a very versatile protein that’s worth experimenting with in the kitchen. Here are just 7 of the many creative ways to serve up salmon.

7 Creative Ways to Serve Up Salmon

Eggs Benedict with Salmon

Sometimes referred to as Eggs Atlantic or Eggs Royale, this dish is a spin on the popular breakfast dish Eggs Benedict. It consists of English muffins topped with smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce (the traditional version typically uses Canadian bacon instead of salmon).

The simplest way to prepare this dish is to buy pre-smoked salmon and pre-made hollandaise sauce. However, if you’re feeling ambitious you can make your own hollandaise sauce and even smoke your own salmon. If you’ve never poached an egg before, you may want to practice this in advance – this can be something that puts a lot of people off, but poached eggs are fairly easy once you get the hang of them. For a touch of greenery, add some spinach, arugula or even salad greens

Another creative way to serve up smoked salmon is on corn pancakes. This can be great as a breakfast dish or appetizer. Using corn gives the pancakes a uniquely crispy outer layer and soft inside. The salmon gives it a tasty seafood twist.

You can find a recipe here for corn pancakes and smoked salmon. Included in this recipe is a guide on how to make mango-serrano crema, which can help to add some extra zing to this dish. Garnish with some cilantro leaves.

Poaching salmon can help to maintain many of the natural juices within the fish making it a healthy way of preparing it. While you can serve poached salmon with many sauces, dill horseradish goes particularly well and helps to add an extra dose of nutrients.

To bring out some of the extra flavors in the fish and to give it a more aromatic quality, consider poaching with white white and bay leaves. You do not have to poach the fish for long to get the right consistency. A more in-depth recipe for poached salmon with dill horseradish sauce can be found here.

Salmon features heavily in Japanese cuisine. Teriyaki salmon is one of the more well-known dishes – it tastes delicious and isn’t too tricky to prepare, making it worthwhile trying if you’re looking for a new way to cook salmon.

You’ll need to start by making the teriyaki marinade, which is typically made from soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame and olive oil. This is then poured onto the salmon and left to marinate (this can be for as little as thirty minutes or three hours depending on how much time you have). After this, place the salmon in the oven to bake. You can check out this site for a more detailed baked teriyaki salmon recipe

Grilled soy salmon skewers

If you’re looking for some unique foods to grill on the barbecue in your next summer party, why not try soy salmon skewers? This can help to give the salmon a crispy seared texture.

Start by preparing a soy marinade – this could include ingredients such as ginger, sesame oil, garlic, brown sugar and of course soy sauce. Cut your salmon into chunks, marinate these in the soy sauce mixture and then skewer them to grill on the barbecue. You can also add other sliced ingredients to the skewers including mushrooms, lemons, peppers and zucchini.

Smoked salmon is a great novelty topping to consider. It has much the same consistency as ham, making it not feel too unusual.

You can use the traditional tomato and mozzarella base, or you can try using creme fraiche. You can also add red peppers as an extra topping.
