New Orleans: My Top 10 Attractions

As everyone who knows me knows, New Orleans is my favorite city to go for vacation. The people are friendly and the food is divine. But in order to be a great place to visit there need to be other activities to keep you interested besides eating and drinking. Here are my Top 10 favorite places:

1.  The sculpture garden  and the Museum of Art in City Park (The sculpture garden is lush and absolutely gorgeous!)
2.  World War II Museum and 4-D film preceded or followed by lunch at Chef John Besh’s The American Sector. The onion rings are amazing as is the ahi tuna. The servers dress in 40’s style. All of these are connected and there is a parking lot.
3.  Fabulous Aquarium with an IMax theater next door. They are on the waterfront and if you walk just a little further there is a gorgeous Agam Holocaust Memorial.
4.  Museum of the American Cocktail and Southern Food is cool! Its on Julia Street but the best way to get to it is too walk through the waterfront mall. This will be on the same side of Canal Street as the Garden District.
5.  Riverboat cruise if it’s not too hot. It is touristy, for sure, but you learn the history of the area.
6.  Jackson Square for art, shopping, people watching and food.
7.  Royal Street for lots of shopping and very cool little galleries and boutiques.
8.  Rouses Market for grocery shopping about 4 blocks from Avenue Plaza. There is also a Whole Foods a little further away from the French Quarter which  is on Magazine Street. I looked on line to see about wine and liquor sales and the answer I found was “Hey, this is New Orleans. Do you really think they would make it hard to buy spirits?”.
9.  Mardi Gras World where all of the floats are made each year and the magic of Mardi Gras begins.
10. Cajun Encounters Tour Company has the very best bayou tours around. Their quiet boats allow you to experience the wildlife in a way that no airboat could provide.

Of course feel free to let me know your favorites, especially if they are not on my list!
