We were so excited to get to Delaware Seashore State Park in Bethany Beach! We were meeting our son and daughter in love for an 10 day camping trip.

For the past several years it has been a tradition to spend a week in Atlantic City together at Brian and Eve’s Flagship timeshare. But this year, due to Covid-19, we could not make that trip a reality. Too many restrictions were in place to protect everyones health. So Brian came up with a brilliant alternate plan. We would spend 7 days at Delaware Seashore State Park and 3 days at Kiptopeke State Park in Cape Charles, Virginia.

Brian had made our camping reservations pretty last minute and we wanted to be parked near each other. In order to do that we needed to split our nights at Delaware Seashore State Park between the South park and North park. So we spent the first half at the South Park which was nice but kind of a long walk to the beach over a long steep dune. But we were right opposite each other which made cooking together quite easy.

Focused on food

Besides beach time, cooking and eating were our main focus. After all, if we had gone to Atlantic City we would visited White House Sub Shop, Jo Jo’s Pizza, Steve and Cookies, Chef Vola and Atlantic City Bar and Grill. So we had a plan to eat all of our meals together and style them after some of the ones we would have at our favorite shore dining establishments.

Food shopping was easy as their were two well stocked supermarkets a short distance from the park. In an effort to stay organized we divided our groceries as to who was cooking what. And by that time it was 5 o’clock somewhere so we let the vacationing begin with some fabulous frozen cocktails and charcuterie. And before we knew it, it was time for juicy smash burgers made by our personal grill chef Brian.

By the time we had to move to the North Park it was time for more grocery shopping. Eve and I were happy to let the men make the move without us. So we volunteered to do the marketing. It was an awesome plan because when we got back they were all set up. And after quickly putting away our haul we were off to the beach.

We LOVED the North Park even more than the South Park. The spaces were much more spacious and the walk to the beach a lot shorter and easier. Plus the beach was more entertaining because we enjoyed watching all of the surfers. And at the back of the park was Hammerhead’s Restaurant and the Indian River Marina.

In order to enter either side of the Delaware Seashore State Park you need to go under a stunning cable bridge. You also walk under it to get to the beach. It reminded us a great deal of the Ravenel Bridge over the Cooper River in South Carolina. As stunning as the bridge is by day, it is even more spectacular at night. It is lit up in cobalt blue lighting that makes it truly a work of art.

Delaware beach towns

This area of Delaware is just gorgeous. There are beautiful beach homes and quaint downtowns. And as an added bonus for Steve and I we have a friend who summers in Rehoboth Beach that we were able to have lunch with. Plus cousins of ours who live in Wilmington have a beach house in Lewes. And our timing was perfect because they came down for the weekend the night before we were leaving, which gave us time for a wonderful visit.

Now I don’t want to make you jealous. But Brian cooked our breakfasts every single day of our vacation! Eve, Brian and I shared the dinner prep with Steve on clean up duty. Our meals were exceptional. We didn’t miss dining out one bit.

In fact we loved everything about our vacation at Delaware Seashore State Park so much that the four of us have already booked our sites in the North Park for next year!!!
